New: boiler safety set

Compact safety sets attached to the household water heaters are represented by a combination of a check and a safety valve. The check valve does not allow heated water to escape back into the cold water pipe and the safety valve protects the water heater against excessive pressure.

The pressure in the water heater increases also due to the thermal expansion of heated water. Domestic electric water heaters, as a rule, do not have the expansion tanks. Its role is performed by the air cushion above the hot water intake. It takes an extra amount of extended water. The total pressure in the tank increases. If this pressure exceeds the safety valve setting (usually 6–7 bar) valve will open, dropping a certain volume of water. However, this "ideal" system works only with properly functioning built in the heating element thermostat. If for any reason the thermostat fails (and it happens quite often), the heater will not switch off at the desired temperature and will continue to heat the water, bringing it to a boil. Discharge capacity of a safety valve included in the normal safety set is not enough to let through a sufficient amount of steam-water mixture. Crash of the heater in this case can have very serious consequences.

You may protect themselves from such "surprises" by using VT.461 safety set. It consists of a nickel-plated brass body in which a ball valve with polysulfone paddle, a spring-return valve and a safety valve with the high discharge capacity for both water and water vapor are located. Swivel plastic drain pipe with a jet breaking device can be connected to the sewer via corrugated hose with union nut of 1 1/4". Safety valve can be forced open from time to time preventing it from "welding".

A safety set can be installed both vertically and horizontally. In this case the drain tube must always be directed downwards, which is assured by its pivotally-rotating design.

Currently, the range of VALTEC products includes safety sets with nominal diameter of ½” and ¾”. The kit includes a sylphon, and for the ¾” model also an adaptor to ½”. Outwardly, these models differ from each other by the color of the cap of the safety valve – red (¾”) or green (½”).
